QUILLING FOR THE ELDERLY
Elderly people love quilling!
I am able to conduct activity sessions with residents in elderly care homes where we work together to complete simple quilled projects like the ones illustrated below.
Older people often find their fingers are less nimble than they used to be, and they may also suffer from impaired eyesight or varying degrees of dementia. However, I generally find that these potential difficulties need not be a problem if I take along a quantity of pre-rolled quilled coils to the workshop so that all participants have to do is gently squeeze them into shapes.
People with impaired vision often enjoy quilling because it gives them the ability to 'feel' a picture by running their fingers over the quilled motifs.
Together, we create simple shapes and glue them into position on a project with the aid of easy-to-use glue dispensers.
I find that participants usually have very clear ideas about how they want their finished projects to be arranged, and these quilling workshops provide them with a welcome opportunity to express their individuality through a creative process.
The fee that I quote you for staging a care home workshop will depend on how far I have to travel, but prices start at £65.00 per session.
